Who we are

Michael Evans
Founder & Director
Michael Evans brings over twenty years’ experience in the art world to Taos Auction Co., which offers a rich variety of art, artifacts and decorative objects from Native American, African, Inuit, Oceanic and Asian cultures, as well as ancient art from the Greek, Roman and Near Eastern worlds.
Born and raised in New Zealand, Michael completed his undergraduate and graduate studies with a concentration in art history, then lived and worked in Europe and the United States. In 2005 he began specializing in ethnographic art and artifacts, with an emphasis on Oceanic and Inuit material and 19th-century photography of tribal peoples, and has exhibited regularly at major tribal-art fairs in the U.S. and Europe.
Since 2017 he has focused on Native American material, serving as Director for Native American and Tribal Art at Skinner Auctions in Massachusetts and, after the 2023 merger, at Bonhams Skinner — before beginning a new chapter with Taos Auction Co. in Santa Fe.
